SASSLink App Disclaimer for Electronic Health Record (EHR) Summary
Important Notice: Use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) Summary
The SASSLink App is developed by the South African Society of Stomates (SASS) to provide healthcare professionals and ostomates with access to an Electronic Health Record (EHR) Summary. The EHR Summary is intended to support clinical decision-making, enable continuity of care, and facilitate the holistic rehabilitation of ostomates before and after surgery.
By accessing or using the EHR Summary through the SASSLink App, you agree to the following:
1. Purpose and Limitations
- The EHR Summary is provided for informational and supportive use only and does not replace professional clinical judgment.
- The completeness and accuracy of the EHR Summary rely on information provided by healthcare professionals and ostomates. SASS makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this data.
- Healthcare professionals are responsible for verifying clinical information independently and using their discretion in all treatment decisions.
2. Patient Consent and Access
- Access to and the sharing of personal health information via the SASSLink App is strictly subject to the ostomate’s informed and voluntary consent.
- Consent must be obtained in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA), and all applicable South African healthcare privacy legislation.
- Only authorised users, including healthcare providers and support personnel, may access the EHR Summary, and only with the appropriate permissions.
3. Data Protection and POPIA Compliance
- SASS is committed to protecting the privacy and security of all personal information in line with POPIA and applicable healthcare regulations.
- We have implemented appropriate technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal health data against loss, unauthorised access, and misuse.
- Personal information will only be processed for the purposes consented to by the user, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
4. Sharing of Personal Information for Clinical Support
- With your explicit consent, your personal health information may be shared with authorised clinicians or healthcare professionals directly involved in your care.
- This sharing is done solely to support your clinical needs, ensure appropriate treatment, and enable holistic rehabilitation.
5. Use of De-Identified Data
- Information collected through the SASSLink App, excluding personally identifiable data, may be used for statistical, research, and reporting purposes.
- This de-identified data helps SASS and relevant partners improve healthcare delivery, inform advocacy, measure program effectiveness, and strengthen public health outcomes.
- Any such use will comply with POPIA and applicable ethical standards for health data.
6. User Responsibilities
- Users must protect their login credentials and may not share their access details with unauthorised individuals.
- All users are responsible for the accuracy and currency of the data they input into the SASSLink App.
- Any unauthorised access to or disclosure of another person’s data without consent is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary or legal action.
7. Liability
- SASS and its partners, affiliates, and service providers accept no liability for any direct or indirect damage or loss arising from the use of the EHR Summary or reliance on its contents.
- Users assume all risks and responsibilities associated with decisions made based on the information provided by the SASSLink App.
8. Updates and Changes
- SASS reserves the right to amend this disclaimer at any time to reflect legal, technological, or operational changes.
- Users will be notified of significant updates. Continued use of the App after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
If you do not agree with the terms outlined above, you must not access or use the SASSLink App or the EHR Summary.
